Fish pedicures

Have you heard of this?

That's my feet!

Sarah and I got 50% off coupons for a place in Camden which does them. Camden is this ultra-hip area of London filled with 16 year old goths and would-be rock stars (we so don't fit in there) but it's really fun to go.

This fish pedicure place is actually IN a bustling Camden outdoor market, loaded with stalls and millions of people walking by, asking you what it feels like and taking pictures of your feet! Bizarre experience, but pretty fun!

The fish are toothless garra ruffa fish, and they eat the dead skin on your feet. Yum! And yes, some places have outlawed fish pedicures for fear it's unsanitary. Could be.

Sausages instead of fireworks

Remember Remember the Fifth of November!

November 5 is Guy Fawkes Day, and our church does fireworks. Sarah and I went early to help with the food, and single (well, double) handedly sliced over 200 rolls and helped Val cook the same number of sausages! We had a great time. No really!

Pete did some kind of security thing and wore a florescent vest. He's not an angel.
Odile and I dished up the sausages during the fireworks so unfortunately I didn't get to see them. Thankfully Pete and I live on a hill and have an amazing view from our living room window - I think I saw all the rest of the East London and Essex fireworks displays later that night and all weekend!

What's at the end of the rainbow?

Obviously, Asda.

And when I got home, this was the sky out my window! Beautiful.

Pete says goodbye to an old friend

The ZX Spectrum computer is like the UK equivalent of the Commodore 64. In Pete's efforts to make room for ME in his apartment, he decided it was time to part ways.

Check this thing out! I think it ran on a cassette?!

In the "bin store" (trash room). Aw...

The biggest difference between the UK/Europe and America

Not an uncommon sight in the British Isles and the Continent. I took this at a pub recently.

London Zoo at night

This month London Zoo is doing this "zoo at night" thing and we got half price tickets so went last week. I wondered if this was a chance for them to let people into the park while half the animals are asleep and it's too dark to see any others.

It was really fun but definitely a bit of the above. It's basically a big party - tons of people, lots of food and drinking, and if you remember they're there while it's still light and they're up, you can see the animals. But definitely an experience! I'd never been there and it's crazy that this huge place exists in the middle of the city.

Here's their 70 year old tortoise. I thought it was a rock till they started feeding it a banana. Which grossed me out while everyone else was going "Awwwwww".

Hurry! It's getting darker.

I must admit, the monkeys were pretty great!

You are so jealous that I live in London

I took this in Upton Park the other day. There's another one just down the street from me. Yes those windows read "jellied and stewed". Great options.

Boris Bikes

London has a new "cycle scheme" which our slightly crazy and ever-bumbling mayor Boris Johnson has been promoting.

I happen to work where millions of these new rental bikes are available and for some reason it's very funny to actually see people riding them.

I took this picture between work and Waterloo Station, where there must be 5 or more docking stations. More info here if you're interested..
