London Zoo at night

This month London Zoo is doing this "zoo at night" thing and we got half price tickets so went last week. I wondered if this was a chance for them to let people into the park while half the animals are asleep and it's too dark to see any others.

It was really fun but definitely a bit of the above. It's basically a big party - tons of people, lots of food and drinking, and if you remember they're there while it's still light and they're up, you can see the animals. But definitely an experience! I'd never been there and it's crazy that this huge place exists in the middle of the city.

Here's their 70 year old tortoise. I thought it was a rock till they started feeding it a banana. Which grossed me out while everyone else was going "Awwwwww".

Hurry! It's getting darker.

I must admit, the monkeys were pretty great!

You are so jealous that I live in London

I took this in Upton Park the other day. There's another one just down the street from me. Yes those windows read "jellied and stewed". Great options.

Boris Bikes

London has a new "cycle scheme" which our slightly crazy and ever-bumbling mayor Boris Johnson has been promoting.

I happen to work where millions of these new rental bikes are available and for some reason it's very funny to actually see people riding them.

I took this picture between work and Waterloo Station, where there must be 5 or more docking stations. More info here if you're interested..

Name my location

No Londoners allowed to guess!

There are some clear hints in this picture which I took on the bus the other day. Where am I and what's going on?

Something and something something

The other day I made a recipe I'd seen for Tomato and Basil Risotto. As you know may know, "tomato", "basil" and "risotto" are all pronounced differently if you're American than if you're English.

Pete really enjoyed the Tomahto and Bahsil Rissatto.

Wicked birthday

My handsome fiance surprised me with a really nice birthday dinner out and wonderful tickets to see Wicked!

The only
downside is I've had 'Defying Gravity' stuck in my head ever since. Tormenting me.

Check out this close-up of the pin was wore.

Surprise!

Pete and I thought we were going over our friends' house for dinner but surprise surprise, it was an engagement party for us, with friends from church. Really nice!

Aw, we love all these people!

The last picture is Phil and Melinda, our host and hostess.

You've got to love London for places like this

Which I walked past the other day.

Beautiful London Sunday

Last weekend Pete and I went to Embankment (where Big Ben and the London Eye are) and got on a boat for a ride down the Thames to Richmond, with the ultimate destination of Richmond Park.

It was a gorgeous day, and a nice long boat ride.

.... and, finally there. Ahh.

The Fried Chicken Project

So. Welcome to the unveiling of this weird "project" I've been working on for several months. Most of these pictures were taken from London buses, and for every shot I have, I swear there were at least 3 that I missed.

I must admit, I love this.

Or click here to watch it bigger.
